About UsThe Lunatick Fire and EMS Store™ is run by current Paramedics, EMT's and Firefighters. Combined we have over 100 years of firefighting and EMS experience. We are all familiar with the items we sell and recommend them based on our usage of the item (not based on the opinions of paid reviewers or dealer catalogs that are created by the product manufacturers). Located in LI NY, many of us work in NYC and put the products we sell through their paces. If something fails we don't sell it. If it excels we recommend it. Why the name The Lunatick™?Because You gotta be a little crazy to love our job! What does this symbol mean?![]() This image means the item has been field tested by one of the staff members or a designated field tester. The item must have survived one (1) year of field testing and still be usable by that person. In other words we don't put our stamp of approval on it unless we actually use it and recommend it for others. Similar items may not both bear this seal because not all items are tested by us. We do this everyday and when we find something that works we stick with it unless something better comes along.
Our OriginsThis store started out in 1996 as a Fire and EMS humor site (which is still up and will be for as long as we are alive). In 2001, we registered the domain Thelunatick.com and shifted it from a personal webpage to a community site. Late in 2001, the store launched, however was derailed for a few months by 9/11. The main reason we launched the store was that we were sick of going into supply places run by people who knew nothing about what they were selling other than what they read off the press releases, and then would try to sell the most expensive things possible. We sell you what you need. We don't see the point of an EMT buying a $150 stethoscope to get a BP when a $20 stethoscope will do the same job. We recommend products we know will last. Over the years the store grew and then in 2009, when we realized our current design could not keep up with the stock we now kept, this new store was designed then launched for beta testing in December. The full store launched in 2010. |
